I have been dedicated to the breeding
and preservation of the Ragdoll for over 11 years and recently have become
more and more concerned about the use of the breed by irresponsible breeders out
crossing to other breeds and
producing variant kittens without any thought of the implications it has on the
Ragdoll
In recent months we have noticed that
there have been many adverts in cat magazines and various online adds
claiming that Ragamuffin kittens are being produced at a low cost, when in fact
the kittens being produced
are nothing more than variants! We have also heard of breeders putting un
registered Ragdolls to Siberians
claiming that those kittens to are RagaMuffins! which is totally untrue.
The Ragamuffin is a bona fide breed in
itself and although still quite rare, is recognised by most cat registering
bodies throughout the world. At this point in time GCCF do not recognize the
breed which is giving the breeders
of the variants free range to do whatever they want and call the offspring that
they are producing whatever they want
Here at Filensio we are determined to
protect the Ragdoll as well as the RagaMuffin as two separate breeds and as such
are working within a group of experienced breeders so that they both are
protected against unscrupulous breeding
practices that could adversely affect both breeds in the UK
By Importing and promoting the
'Authentic' RagaMuffin in the UK, producing strict registration and breeding
policies
along with standards of points, and by seeking recognition of the RagaMuffin
name with the GCCF we feel that this is
the way forward to ensure that the two breeds, although having common ancestry
are in fact two separate and
completely different breeds of cat. ( at this point all authentic RagaMuffins
available for purchase in the UK will be
registered with the ACFA. The American Cat Fanciers Association)
For many years and because of our love
of the Ragdoll and its origins, the RagaMuffin has been a great source of
interest
and it is for this reason, that we have decided to fulfil our ambition to import
the breed into the UK. We are, as I'm sure
others will be, captivated by the wide spectrum of coat and eye colour that can
be produced within the breed and a long
with the wonderful laid back Rag temperament we hope
that we can produce, in our opinion the purrr-fect feline
as well as preserving the Ragdoll as it should be- Blue Eyed, Colourpointed
and not solid! which we all know and love
The first RagaMuffin will be arriving
in December 2008 and is a solid blue and white, the next group of Muffins will
be
arriving in early spring 2009, colours included will be Mink, dominant and
dilute, Torties, silver tabbies and smokes.
